LPS 1233 Sprinkler and Gas
Certification of fixed fire protection systems in the Netherlands
The LPS 1233 scheme, Certification of fire protection systems in The Netherlands, is operated by LPCB under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dutch Centre for Crime Prevention (Centrum voor Criminaliteitspreventie en Veiligheid; CCV) and covers the following types of fire protection systems:
- Sprinkler systems including sprinklers with electrical signalling
- Sprinkler systems including pre-action (with electrical actuation)
- Sprinkler systems including deluge (with electrical actuation)
- Sprinkler systems including water spray (with actuation detection and with or without foam additive)
- Gas Suppression systems (with electrical actuation)
LPCB has operated the LPS 1233 scheme covering the certification of fire protection systems in The Netherlands since January 2000.
Technical Committee for Fire Safety
The technical committee (CvD) responsible for the LPS 1233 scheme acts as the forum for representing market parties and is dedicated to the LPS 1233 scheme.
The following branch organisations are represented on the CvD and support the LPS 1233 scheme:
- VSI -Verenigde Sprinkler Installateurs (association of sprinkler installers)
- VIVB - Vereniging van Inspectie instellingen voor Veiligheid en Brandveiligheid (association of Inspection Bodies)
- LNB - Landelijk Netwerk Brandpreventie - [NVBR] (Fire Brigade)
- VeBON - Vereniging van BeveiligingsOndernemingen in Nederland (sector organisation of security companies)
- VVV - Verbond van Verzekeraars (association of insurers)
- Insurance Brokers within ASPO (Algemeen SchadePreventie Overleg)
- Fire protection consultants.

Day to day operation of the LPS 1233 scheme
LPCB Nederland is responsible for the day to day operation of the LPS 1233 scheme, which includes:
- Certification (on request) of installers, the audits for which are carried out by LPCB.
- Certification of systems. The inspection is carried out by an LPS 1233 recognised inspection body.
- Maintenance of the scheme documentation.
Inspection Bodies
LPCB has licence contracts with inspection bodies that are accredited by RvA, Dutch accreditation body, to ISO 17020 using a VIVB branch document (VVB09). They are listed on this web site.

An application as an approved sprinkler or gas installer can be done by downloading an Application form that must be completed, signed and sent to LPCB Nederland. The application form can be found at the Dutch LPS 1233 Downloads page.
